People seem to be not using avid editors anymore with final cut on everyones laptop. Think that's really hurting editorial/motion graphics shops. should they be kept seperate?

A real agency isn't going to some schmuck with Final Cut on a laptop. They don't care if someone's on an Avid or FCP.
They go to real editors at established shops. So if some of them are integrating editorial with vfx, well that's the market. Smart move on the part of those shops.
Editorial houses like Lost Planet are doing just fine.
