I blame society's role models today. Ask a kid who they admire the most and I get your ass they say a celebrity. Extra points if they're a sportsperson. Marketers have used tv and internet to infiltrate homes and brainwash today's kids. When they're not being exposed to junk they're eating it and in spades. Look at the tv listings nowadays, we've moved on from reality tv to "let's fix our fucked up lives" programming. Let's send our sprogs to brat camp, let's bring in the super nanny, hell we can't even control our own dogs! I don't know where I'm going with this, I'm on my own in the office and am listening to some very loud Patti Smith.
