Anyone who has bought a ring: What made you get what you did? Did you get what you could afford or go overboard? Did you not want to spend a ton because the money could be better spent on other things like wedding, honeymoon, house savings, etc?
That's where I am. To do something soon, the most feasable thing is to spend around $2,000-2,400.
I'm just afraid of someone saying "It's not a carat," or some materialistic crap like that. The $$ jump from 3/4 to 1 is outrageous, and the size difference is really not that much.
