I put out some candles, had some nice red wine and blind folded her when she came to my door, she thought I was unveiling artwork to her, but I hid the ring in 2 dozen roses and was down on one knee with roses in front of her, it took a sec but she found, had some nice wine to toast the event and went to dinner. she seemed to like it....
As for rings, find a family jeweler of a friend and have them make you something, its cheaper than the bigger diamond stores and its usually way better quality.
