What if, in an elaborate scheme to get what we want, we assigned unearned credability to a few of ourselves and started an Entity and agreed as an industry that we would laud the opinions of that Entity? Then those few oppressed of our ilk who work internaly for cash-conscience clients can have an industry acclaimed authority to cite. I see this as the only real way to win. Being hot is all there is, but very, very sadly that argument is never good enough for the guys writing the checks.
This thing needs to be very Ocean's 13 if it's to work. I'm sort of serious about this. I think establishing a credibility like that would work. We could spread the word about it underground and soon it would be more esteemed than David Ogilvy. We would all have to pledge secrecy and unwavering loyalty to anything the Entity says. It would require some pride- swallowing and maybe a little soul-selling, but the bad feelings will all wash away when we sit down at our machines. We will have our hottness to keep us warm.
