I don't see the point in this "redesign", it's just the goole bar in a blue background. No effort has been made to change anything, just the styling a bit and it's not even very nice.
I don't really know off the top of my head how you would improve on the google homepage to be honest, it's simple and to the point. The search results page is surely where work could really make a difference?
