    LaCie's are fine - I've got one and they've been well-recommended here for years.

    However, your greatest considerations should probably be size and powering - most of the drives I have seen require a seperate power supply = bulky pointlessness for you whilst you travel. Don't know what system you're packing - but consider a USB-plugged unit, as firewire isn't as commonly supported (if you're using someone else's machine)

    I've got a 250gb Lacie 'porsche' unit, which seems pretty hardy - I often take it abroad, but is firewire and requires a seperate power unit.
