had the exact same model. if it is what i'm thinking it's your hard drive. the "needle" is picking up and dropping on the hard disk.
does it only happen after say 15 or so minutes of working on the computer? if so i'm right. it only happens when the hard-drive heats up.
shut down and wait for things to cool off. put in a "slave" hard drive and when you turn on the computer start copying like a madman. now it's only a matter of time when the hd shits the bed for good.
