I think Flash surpassed Director starting with MX. Flash 5 was pretty close.
If you're not doing 3d or CD-ROM, you're probably better off with Flash. Director accesses the operating system better.
I'm not sure i understand why people like Director better for video. It's always a hassle to have it on top, with Director to Stage settings and making sure the user has Quicktime.
Flash can just embed it and you can do whatever you want with it.
