you cannot get a visa once you are in the us i don't think. i know that you certainly cannot do it that way here. you have to either come with the work permit in hand or come over, find a job, go back to the states, apply for the visa and then come over again. if you do it the way that you are suggesting, jaz and work under the table, you can get deported. i've been deported before and it's not nice. it can fuck up the rest of your life. in the us the penalty that goes with deportation is that you are illegal even to enter the us for ten years and, in certain cases, jail time. for some people that is an unacceptable risk.
