my answer here will be 2-fold;
1. it is tough to obtain work visas in the US now as new terrorist laws clamped down by the empire's demands have really cut a lot out of the loop. that said, a company sponsoring you is a huge plus. that, and the fact you are a UK citizen is in your favor.
2. because there are many, many US peeps on this site and those w/ hiring/firing abilities, i would suggest having your portfolio either a) correctly listed, or b) correctly working when you say "assume my portfolio is good". it says a lot (for better or worse) about the experience bit you mention.
SF is great though and lived there for a bunch. good luck with the search. :)
