i don't see anything wrong with patting each other on the back...design (i'm not a designer mind you) is largley an invisible art form anyway, at least to the general public. as for pretenciousness...well, EVERY proffesion has prentenciousness in it, so many people are insecure and boring and if they can't just let their work speak for themselves than fuck em they'll smarten up eventually
