  I can't decide whether to buy Reason, or buy a drum machine - BOSS or Alesis. Reason looks really intimidating. What's the learning curve like?

  Reason isn't a drum machine and vice versa. You can utilize it as a tool that creates beats, but you can also use it as a sequencer and slice and dice, quantizing your looped sections and total tracks much easier. The learning curve isn't that bad. Took me about a month to learn it well.
