    lol awesome. In america its generally not cool to be intelligent. But in England (partly due to the bbc) The attitude is more that the cultural elite do what they do & dont have to pander to a percieved lowest common denominator.

    BBC is government funded and operates with that attitude, ("we'll enrich and inspire you even if all you want is porn and football, there are more interesting things.")

    So they'd get great shows about the different buildings being consdered for a major architectural award- a bunch of critics walk you through and you really learn, by hearing them critique.

    There is a respect for artistry, craft and ideas that is perhaps less common in the states. The US is much more brash so US design often takes on this persona as well.
