Who determines what someone deserves? Do they not serve a necessary function? Do they not "move NYC," so to say? Does it really matter if they aren't undertaking rocket science?
In a region with astronomical costs of living, it would make sense that everyone, regardless of how valuable YOU deem them, should be compensated with a livelihood that affords them housing, retirement, the ability to put their children through college, etc.
And when there are more than enough resources, people shouldn't be forced to do multiple jobs. Designers don't share that sentiment because we think working 24/7 and no job stability should be the norm.
