That sucks Ian!
What I loved about my government job was that I started earlier than my boss. So I had about 1h before my boss got in to be late if I had to be, and do whatever I wanted. My boss didn't even check up on me that much. Maybe once a day or something, and it would usually be after lunch.
My co-workers and I didn't converse with each other either because we were behind huge cubicles. And you could take off whenever and no one would really notice.
*ahem, I didn't actually do these things, but it was pretty obvious that a lot of people didn't care or know about what everyone else was doing.
I'm going to try and get that job again this summer, haha.
