...yet no one seems to get upset by the constant stream of half-assed remakes, rip-offs and lack of originality in hollywood...
i don't get it.

huh? there are endless complaints about that here, and the movie industry is hurting so badly they're hoping that king kong saves the day...a film made by peter jackson, the director they shat all over and refused to reward with an oscar until the 3rd LOTR film.
