The first ad was 0,0,0,100 and the second was 11,9,9,97! The second ad looked better than the one that was %100 black...interesting!

(Dec 13 05, 12:34)yeah, the 11,9,9 in the 2nd black would fill in for the 97... next time use one of the process blacks suggested here and you'll be looking pretty.
*** and use it for larger fills only... don't try setting 10pt type with a process black because it'll never be crisp. black strokes and small text always get 0,0,0,100 with "overprint" selected in attributes.
