but going back to the original question..
considering it was exported to tiff i wouldn't mind betting there was some colors fudged in the process.. did you export from a AI-CMYK color space to a CMYK tiff? anything but would mess with your values and end in muddy color.
open up the final tiff and give us a CMYK value on the blacks in question.. that should explain all. if you went from AI CMYK to PS RGB and back to CMYK, i bet your blacks will be a messy value, like (78,56,63,82) or something totally random.
