they dont necessary sell it to other companies, You will aways get a warning letting you know that your site will expire. even after the domain has expired some companies will hold it for you for up to 2 months, in case you dont realize you are about to lose your domain.

While in the other side fellaws dedicate their time finding sites that have been online for years and then they place themselves on waiting line for when the domain is released, if they are the onlyones waiting for the domain they have to pay a fee to get it, if there is more than 1 people in waiting line for the domain they but it for bid and the one that bids the most gets the domain, that is why in order for them to get their money back

    1. they have to find a domain that has been for years on the market, that way most likely the original owner is going to pay to get it back
    2. they have to place themselves in waiting line for hundreds or even thousands of sites.

You can do it yourself with godaddy.com just search for a domain and if some one else owns it, they show you there that you can reserve the site and they will try to get it for you.

I think some one is trying to make this illegal. I have been waiting for a domain name of my first name for about 4 years now, every year I email the owner and ask if he has brought the price down, and every year its the same aswer.

:we have several people asking for this domain, make and offer and we will review"

I reply back with, How much do you want?

and the starting price is at 2,000.

that is how business works I guess.
