tough question 1. because it's a family friend and 2. because you don't have a contract.
i actually managed to get myself into a very similar situation. i ended up just GIVING the client the files. they were a pain in my ass anyway and so i was glad to pass them onto someone else!
personally (i'm not an attorney), i think that it would be hard to try to make your client pay more money for something that they didn't know would cost them more money in advance.
there's my 2 cents. sell the files for more than that if you choose :)
