" When it comes to drugs, I think the drug runners and addicts are equal victims. Both getting involved with the drug scene through desperation, either to escape financial or emotional hardships.

Yes drug runners/mules know what they are getting themselves into by trafficking drugs — a possible death sentence, but so do the users. When a user takes a drug for the first time they are aware that they too could face the death penalty: overdose.

Family members of those who have overdosed often want to blame someone else rather than looking into their own backyards. Do we blame Holden if our loved one gets in the car drunk knowing that they could crash or do we blame the alcohol? No! We blame the individual as it comes down to personal choice.

It was one reader's opinion who had lost a loved one to drugs that Van Nguyen was filth, how did you feel when someone thought of your drug afflicted family member in the same manner.

I too have had people close to me with drug problems and a friend who died in relation to a drug dependency so I do know how it feels to lose someone to drugs and I do sympathise with those who have lost.

But... those that would have ended up using Van's drugs if he was not caught would have taken them of their own free will.

Van Nguyen made a very stupid mistake that he paid for with his life, he too is a victim of drugs. Why was he not allowed to be given a second chance at life when paedophiles and serial rapists are allowed back onto our streets."
