Yeah, i've used ableton and final scratch, and it does have a lot of potential... in no way would i dispute digital mixing as having its own virtue... I'm a big fan of Richard D James, Farben, Akufen etc, I'd be a hypocrite if I dissed it.
Have you seen the lecture that richie hawtin gave on ableton and final scratch?
Search soulseek for deconstruktion lekture, and you get an awesome intro into the world of ableton and final scratch...
