GM's trucks and suv's were their bread and butter. the sudden spike in price and a temporary shortage as a result of katrina just made people get an idea of the oil supply in the world. the people who could barely afford an H2 and bought one just to own a hummer are the ones that's getting rid of them and the ones who could actually afford them just don't care about higher gas prices. my point is that people are still going to buy big gas -guzzling trucks and suv's becuase they could afford them and the gas and/or they get them for work, and it's really not suvs's that got GM in trouble, it's their poor reliability and quality reputation. their retail price also had a factor in their decline. for years they would price themselves out of the market with their msrp price but fall back in with incentives and rebates. as you can see, it has not worked out well for them.
