Just in DW defense, I have used it for the past 4 years and never had a problem. Sometimes you have extra code but that can be avoided if you know where to fix the problem.
I have created large sites with DW and with extremly clean code. another reason why I use it so much is because everywhere I have worked I am requested to use DW. specially to create templates, that btw once you learn how to make templates you can make really complexe layouts and make site wide changes with the press of a button.
