sf: big city but can get around w/out owning a car for the most part. more community feel attached than LA. lots of new technology development happening in and out (think why google chose sf for free WiFi). less attached from plastic culture (as in cosmetic surgery, etc.). if you get tired of concrete jungle, nature is only a few minutes to hours away (ski, hiking, swimming, etc.). closer to better wineries.
LA: big. plastic. hollywood. maybe more media related jobs and cheaper to live. gotta own a car and willing to spend hours sitting in your car going nowhere.
