Art is ultimately a business. It's all about making money. You can start by making small amounts of it, keeping up the hard work and eventually making more. Don't move to new york until you are making some reasonable cash. The rent is probably lower elsewhere.
Definitely be very selective about the people you work with and places you show at. Look at a guy like marcel dzama. His work is simple and brilliant. The only reason I'm not where he is is because I don't do the same volume. He out endures me. www.davidzwirner.com
