I didn't like the cake shop too much. didn't feel to inviting or have enough place to do your thing. They're owned by the same people that own Alt.Cafe (on 9/A) which would be perfect if they didnt' close at random times between 1 and 3 am.
I'd recommend Esperanto, though. It's in the West Village on McDougal.
Open all night. Good ambiance. Cheap(ish) drinks. That's where you could normally find me at 3-4am.
