Tick, I'm not sure what "firebreathers" are, or who burned you in the past. But someone has misrepresented what true Christians are, to you. This is clear thru the common theme of your posts - ridicule of anyone with deeply held spiritual beliefs (though i still contend that you yourself are searching). It's a shame really. But all too common.
You've almost got real ministry down pat, actually. Jesus set the perfect example of descending into the dregs to meet the needs of the less fortunate. He shared meals with prostitutes and drunkards and unconditionally loved the outcasts of society. But he also cut to their core need - redemption from sin and spiritual seperation from God. What you like to call "fundies" and other derogatory names, are more often just people who embrace every word and teaching of Christ (not just the ones they are comfortable with, or which fit into their political paradigm).
Your caricatures don't square up with reality. The fact is, there are real people who love God and love his word and who's lives exemplify the servant heart of Christ.
