I had it last winter. I went the first day and they told me I didn't need to come and I could leave. This was after some instructions though. They gave me a phone number to call each morning to see if I would need to go in that day.
As for getting out of it, you need pretty good written proof to defer your "duty" to another date. Getting out of this is pretty difficult. But let us know if you do.
I found my jury duty interesting. I never got called on, but being in a room with hundres of people from different backgrounds stuck, as-it-were, opportune to draw. Bring books, and sketch pads... it is a great chance to see the citizens of this country in a situation where most don't want to be there. If you can, look at their postures and facial expressions... priceless.
