i read a fascinating article in the independent (?) the other day called 'since when was work supposed to make us happy?'
the author was explaining how, for our generation more than any other to date, the pressure and anxiety surrounding the whole project of 'finding your calling;' that one perfect thing that you love to do and are happy in, has become more stressful than work itself.
we change careers, cities, homes and lovers constantly, looking for that perfect fit. we believe in perfection, in perfecting our own lives. me, i'm think it's worth it - battling all the attendant demons of this mentality - but it's not easy. it's like i'm preprogrammed to feel like i'm in a rut after i've done the same thing for six months or a year.
i'm not sure what the long-term implications are going to be. with any luck, i'll just end up being perfect...
