I'M from there (only in NYC for work for the summer).

    May I suggest:
Ste-Elizabeth (off ste-catherine, between st-laurent and st-denis), the nicest terrasse in town.

Santropol (st-urbain and duluth) great sandwiches, chill atmosphere

The Mile-End, the coolest area (not annoyingly hipsterized like the plateau). Go to Café Olympico on St-Viateur and have a bagel at the shop at the corner of Parc. Best in the world.

The tam-tams on Sunday, at the foot of the mountain on Parc ave. and Mont-Royal.

When going out, avoid Crescent. Too touristy, too anglo. The real thing would rather be on St-Denis, St-Laurent or Mont-Royal

Casa del Popolo (St-Laurent, south of St-Joseph) is a fun venue for shows. Try the Sala Rossa (across the street) for organic brunches on the week-end. Delicious and cheap.

Strip joints are famous, sure, but pretty much all sorts of sinful activities is well accepted. We are the Amsterdam of North America, after all. Buying pot, marrying a same-sex partner, easily accessible prostitution, that's all common in Mtl.

Advice: Play down your "americanity" a little. Girls, or guys, won't be impressed. You can still blend in, since Mtl has a big anglo community.
