Design Rates... what is reasonable?

That's an interesting question... it depends on what kind of trip it is. I did a big assignment a few weeks ago and they wanted me to attend the event, just in case something would go wrong. They paid for tickets, transfer, hotel, had a driver and a converter (it was in Russia). This way it was a nice 2 day break for me and an investment in deepening the contact between us. I think you should do it this way: make sure ALL costs are covered (so flight, transfer, hotel, transportation etc), maybe not food but this is possible and negotiate a price for the actual work you do, this may be higher than usual. They won't pay you for sleeping ;), but I always think like this: while I was in that plane I could have worked on another project... just try to balance it and try not to be too arrogant, in that case they will often give you a nice rate. It's a matter of giving and taking. Do you charge for business meetings with clients?
