Is it always really important that a movies matches the original book. Everyones interpretation of a book is different - what characters really look and act like, what they think are the most important elements, the aura of a persona etc. A movies is merely an interpretation and creation of a screenplay of a book - it can never be perfect in everyones eyes.

Movies like this I like to ignore what I know of the book and try to watch it as a movie for its movie entertainment value.

I read lord of the rings when I was a teenager and have purposely not read the books again because I want a fresh view of the movies for what they are - which is enjoyable.
