baja is a pretty safe place although highway bandits can strike anywhere. If you stay with you stuff(car, toys, etc.) generally you will be fine. It's a beautiful area with great beaches, surfing, seafood, and beer. Really nothing like mexico city, where I was this spring.
The people are very nice and welcome tourist dollars, DO IT now!
