    to be honest, I believe he was a bit of a 'prick' (not my choice of wording) pre-cancer. he was a cocky arrogant young pro for Motorola in the early 90's - by his own admission. he's worked all his life for this, so I think he is more than entiltled to behave like that - damn sure I would.

    he was a hero of mine before he was diagnosed - the day he won a stage in the 1995 stage 2 days after one of his teammates had died will stick in my mind always.

    a remarkable man.
