interesting... i have an inspiron 1100 and a week and a half ago the hard drive crapped out.
i left it on overnight, went to get back to work on a project the next morning and it was toast.
could overheating have caused this?

Wow! that is sad. I leave mine on 24/7 and never had a problem.
