@slinky
If it's just one translation, I'd use ACF to create a second content field on each page/post (and a duplicate of any other custom field you've added).
Load up both in the page template, each wrapped in a div (say <div class="english">English Content</div><div class="spanish">Spanish Content</div>, set them both to display:none. Then make a small nav to switch between the two, using javascript to make which ever language is selected visible.

Out of date WP installations or plugins will almost certainly get compromised. Depending on your server configuration, the other sites on your server may also get compromised as well.
Charge your clients a recurring fee to keep their shit up-to-date and backed up. With my clients this is non-negotiable (though they've all seen the value in what I offer). If your client refuses, make sure you're not hosting their site.
I just had an agency client get their MT account compromised because of this. I was managing 3/8 WP installs on their server. They didn't want me to manage the other 5 because their client owed them money. Everything on their server has malware on it now.

Anyone who struggles with the wp updates:
If you are an admin you should receive emails regarding the core wp updates.
I use a server control panel called plesk(onyx) for over 14 years, for example it sends you an email regarding the updates(plugins, theme, core), and you don't have to use the system built in installer, just setup the site and plesk can detect the new wordpress installs.
It has many other features what can be useful if you host wp sites.

After 5 days working with Gutenberg I feel I'm getting there.
I'm making two mockups for the same website, one using GenerateBlocks and Otter, the other one just using Spectra.
I'm jumping over some basics because of the deadline but I will get back to it.
Watching tutorials while doing it, a slower process but fast results.

Right now, after all the great input I received here I'm checking WP themes and examples that might suit.
Any suggestions?

I don't have any personal experience with it, but I know that Wordpress offers an "API only" functionality. So, instead of having to deal with all their html templating, styling, and all the shit you don't want to deal with on the front end, you can just send http requests to the api and do what you want on the frontend.

Looking for a music player plugin that will do the following:
- on press of minimal play button, a track plays, showing only an indicator of length of track and length played (unsure of the technical terms here). Super minimal display.
- ability to loop certain songs.
- ability to stop a playing track if any other playing track. On this aspect, imagine multiple divs containing a single player each. If song A in div A is playing, and you click song B in div B, sing A should stop and song B should play.Any suggestions?

I am using YOAST SEO plugin.
Is there a way to not load yoast for a particular page, so I can add a dynamic title/description for that page only.

http://www.qbn.com/topics/738739…you can add custom style definitions to cols via offset, to avoid inline css export.
offset="vc_col-md-6 vc_col-xs-1 theme_style"
for all visual composer elements you can use the el_class="extra_item_class"
prefix bootstrap styles via vc_

**FAIR WARNING**
I just caught the Gutenburg editor RED HANDED producing non-compliant code. Yesterday I was sitting on the mac at uni, trying to figure out why I kept getting the: "Failed. Could not update post in the database error" I was on day 4 of working nonstop, to the point of no sleep no eating no shower, just to fix this stupid bug. Doing my head in real good. Tech support was no help, said it needed a "deeper investigation to fix."
Next to me was sitting a student working on his laptop, he's on a business call and talking tech stuff. Then, completely on whim, I am so desperate I'll do anything mind... I decide to ask a complete stranger to help me with my wordpress problem. LOL fml.
He says he knows java, but never seen or been around wordpress... but he'll take a look. He is intrigued when I reproduce the bug in front of him, and his engineering mind starts going thru possible causes for the bug. I tell him wordpress is based on .php. I show him some code I copied and pasted via the "copy" function on the left hand tree view inside gutenburg. Mind you, this is the exact same code the wp editor will happily DISPLAY but not ALLOW to POST to the DATABASE(UPDATE). He sees the code, and asks me is it html or php. I say "php" but I dunno it looks like .html actually. Then he does something I didn't expect.
He asks AI to tell us, what language is this code? The AI says it's "gutenburg". There are literally tears forming in my eyes, because I realize he's solved it. He asks the AI: "convert this gutenburg code to html" The AI does it. I go back to wordpress and create a "custom html" block and insert the code. SUCCESS!!! The code was immediately accepted and the website was fixed. I did however find that the 'front page' kept reverting backwards to an older edit, and that problem was caused by having 'sync' turned on in the 'pattern' settings when I was saving the pattern. I turned sync off and the bug disappeared. I don't know why 'sync' is turned on by default to begin with?
What a nasty introduction to wordpress. My theory is that either:
-gutenburg was trolling me with bad code
OR
-my theme was bugged, so any changes made were producing bad codeI'll update my post with "lessons learned" but that's enough for now.
tl;dr - don't use gutenburg editor for wordpress

fadein:
$current_postID = '438'; //Replace 438 with function that pulls current id
if($randID == $current_postID ){}
else{
$temp_title = get_the_title($post->ID);
$temp_link = get_permalink($post->ID);
$img_url = wp_get_attachment_url( get_post_thumbnail_id($post->ID) );

NOTICE: WPML is crashing with Wordpress last update, check your sites guys:
- imbecile0
not sure about this, still wondering what the issue was / is.
on a dreamhost wordpress install...
using firefox, when accessing the widgets page I get a 404 redirect to the site's 404 page.
If I use chrome, the widgets page functions and can be edited as expected.
cleared cache, permalinks, still no change.
most peculiar thing i've ever seen on wp

Sorry Pockets - thought it would be okay as short. Here you go:

hey fadein11, mekk...and others
I spent the last three days looking for a WP theme for the recording studio gig...fuck me!!!
:)
the site should be very simple.
this is sort of the structure/pages it'll have:- home (contains about probably and social media links)
- bio
- gear/studio conditions
- rental/usage rates
- contact
- blog (for ongoing projects)
- portfolio (list of from artists who recorded there with audio player)
- links page (to artists who recorded there)should be responsive (aren't they all nowadays so to speak?)
plus maybe an audio player in the homepage?
I think he would prefer a side menu or hamburger instead of the so commonly seen dropdown menu above the page that just drops down in the photo in the homepage.
client (friend) would like it in WP so he can manage the blog entries and new additions to the artist list or photo of acquired material.
He also prefers WP so he doesn't bother me with stuff he can do by himself.
I don't think I need a framework at all to start with.
I checked the following themes but they have so much more than my friend actually needs.
Or would it be better to use a basic theme?

This guy at WPTuts makes a good point about this in several videos, specifically about Elementor.
And I have to say that I totally understand what he means.
For now, I prefer bloat with Elementor as a mess of plugins and other stuff with Gutenberg but when I see tools like Cwicly or GenerateBlocks I wonder if WP gets better at developing Gutenberg how will things actually end, especially when page builders like Elementor rely on other tools for certain things and have to program thinking in all of them when doing updates so things don't break.
