The fallacy of electric cars is most regions need to burn more coal to generate the electricity, trading one fossil fuel for another. Sure, we need them, but it's not just the cars themselves that need better tech and testing.
- Coal burning is less impact on environment than cars burning fuel on roadsmonospaced
- Really. Show me the evidence. Projected with increase in electric cars correlating to decrease in gasoline.ETM
- ...?ETM
- Do you have the numbers on how many more coal burning plants may need to be built if EV meets critical mass?ETM
- Any citations would be great. Otherwise we're all still guessing and can't say EV will be a saviour.ETM
- Oh and as coal supplies dwindle due to increased damand, how much more electricity for everything could cost.ETM
- cost us. No, there are far more implications than less gasoline engines on the roads.ETM
- Actually to add, many plants are no NG instead of coal... which potentially means more fraking!ETM
- *now NGETM
- More fracking means more polluted water tables. And isn't fracking getting big in the NE?ETM
- Sorry to be curt, but many people are not thinking further than their wall receptacle.ETM
- trueyurimon
- I don't have the numbers here but I have heard this from good sources I know and it's why electric cars are such a big deal.monospaced
- "Good sources"... okay. :/ETM
- I am sure electric utilities are salivating at the prospect... you know, for the environment.ETM
- thanks for poisoning my fish COAL!moldero
- Yea great sources. You don't have to believe but this is the future. And the environmentalists all agree. Sorry.monospaced
- So tell us a little more about the background of these sources?Josev
- Nah. Just "trust" him. You'd think all these "reliable sources" would have published a few papers.ETM
- "Good Sources" hahahahahahamarychain

Also thinking while mind was on the subject, if you only have pure EV cars, and you have a blackout from a storm etc... and your car isn;t charged... and phones are out. What do you do in an emergency? Will we have a battery version of a jerrycan in our garages?
For people without garages or driveways, does that mean sidewalks will be covered with extension cords until infrastructure can catch up and create a curb-side solution?

It'll drive itself into the ocean. Apple junk tech

So the world's richest company are pretending it's the 1970s by building digital watches and electric cars?
They are platform cannibals and should really do something truly innovative and groundbreaking instead of redesigning incremental shit for rich fuckers in order to make more cash.

Not much innovation coming out of Apple these days. Just do what everyone else is doing, play catch up and then package it with purty marketing.
- APPLE IS DOOMEDernexbcn
- yup, but it's making them a very large fortuneformed
- What is next? An iWatch?
http://www.techradar…organicgrid - apple make some good products. what do you want them to do? cure deseases or invent anti-gravity machines?inteliboy
- my mbp is pretty dman perfect and i have no complaints with my iphone.inteliboy
- yet every fucker on an apple thread needs to slam apple for one reason or the other.inteliboy
- go to an android thread and it's not full of apple fans hating on google...inteliboy
- I still don't understand this. They have innovated and everyone's copying them.monospaced
- They defined the modern smartphone and tablet and app ecosystem. Plus great designmonospaced
- The didn't invent the touchscreen device, just refined it. The app store they do deserve credit for (and killing Flash ;-) )formed
- Apple has been playing catch-up over the past few years (Design & innovation), sad but true.organicgrid
- give us an example organicgrid.inteliboy
- invent ≠ innovateinteliboy
- Nobody ever said apple invented the touchscreen or tablet. They did define the categories and implemented them right first.monospaced
- How long did it take Apple to come out with s Samsung sized phone? 2-4 years?organicgrid
- Their UI across all platforms looks like shit.organicgrid
- Perhaps they will adopt flat design in a few years.organicgrid
- a bigger phone? who gives a fuck.inteliboy
- Apparently Apple does, at least 2-3 laters.organicgrid
- ugh.inteliboy
- Screen size is also not innovation, Samsung stole the entire conceptmonospaced

I wonder what year Apple will come out with a gaming console and or platform?
- wow that's some true innovation! a gaming console!inteliboy
- exactly! Give them a few years.organicgrid
- apple hates gamingmekk
- More people game on iPhones than ANY other platform.monospaced

Apple has not been innovative lately. They have just been resizing and making things thinner and lighter. It's a fact.
- Keep drinking from Kool-Aid Coolerorganicgrid
- fan boyzpinkfloyd
- Not fact. A6 chip has a bunch of innovations. Apple Pay has innovations. Handoff is innovative. etc.inteliboy
- The only thing that separates Apples innovation from other tech companies are haters/fanboys parroting tired statements over and over as if it's fact.inteliboy
- statements over and over. Until people like you think it's fact, and that Apple are doomed.inteliboy

Why wouldn't shock me if Apple simply acquires Tesla, because Apple does not have the capabilities of creating and or innovating it's own electric car.
- And Apple...how is that iWatch coming along?organicgrid
- Apple always intended for that product to be a failure so they could show you how lame smart watches are. //monNom
- If Tesla can build a car company from scratch in a short time, why not Apple?ukit2

"Apple will buy Tesla for $75b in 18 months" (opinion)

On a serious note, Apple will be for in car tech what they were for smart phones.
It will make everyone else will suddenly up their game.
- Except they are years behind already...so...formed
- True they are behind but I think its more of a convergence. because highest tech doesnt always win.yurimon
- if you look at innovation sometimes the first ones dont win the market.yurimon
- did you ever see the console of the teslas? they are pretty future compared to rest of cars.uan
- I'd say Tesla's look better than 85% of the cars out there.instrmntl

btw cars are not a status symbol for the younger generation anymore. Maybe on the countryside but the trend is that people move to big cities and don't need cars anymore.
Why would a former trendsetter enter such an old-fashioned market? I think the "Apple Electric Car" will be the same vaporware as Apple making a TV.
They just want you to buy U2 albums while you drive, via siri. That's all, folks.
- a 20k ipod holder?yurimon
- that's changing. This is what was thought, but evidence is pointing to more traditional values againformed
- The windshields would crack and the door locks would break. User error.instrmntl
- cars are status symbols. My buidling parkade is filled with luxury cars even tho we all live downtown. You got money, you buy a nice car, end of story.zarkonite
