what i like about the Roku is its stand aloneness i dont like having to use my phone computer or tablet for everything i do(battery). Also i can mirror whatever i have on my phone to the roku and there is an app that i can use my phone as a remote
- That's the same thing I like about the Apple TV :)monospaced
- That's what they all do, you are thinking about Chromestick, etc.formed

I have Apple TV. Only really use Airplay to watch other stuff. You can watch Amazon Prime or anything by viewing in browser and airplaying.
Apple TV on the whole is dire but airplay is great

run an hdmi cable from your mac to your receiver or tv. now you have a big second monitor you can play anything on
- or stream to the Apple TV?monospaced

- That might work if you have an apartment, but not in a house.ETM

Xbox one is actually really great... can use the smart glass app for iPhone to control everything

I use a logitech keyboard with built in pad with my Amazon TV, works well.
- I use any bluetooth keyboard on the market with my Apple TV for years and works perfectly.monospaced

i wish Apple would fix its audio rate and i could buy-in on tv to eliminate the snake nest under my audio visual stand. need to upgrade from WD Live that won't do 4k. sad face.
- what's broken with the audio rate?monospaced
- ^it's an audiphile wonk. i would use it mainly for home stereo but the itv resamples the audiorate to 48khz. Not a deal-breaker for many others, and yet...MrAbominable
- I hadn’t heard of that.monospaced
- I am able to play lossless FLAC high res audio files via my Appletv using 3rd party apps. It doesn’t fownsample those I don’t think.monospaced
- Even tidal has an appletv app specifically for listening to high res audio. They wouldn’t do this if it was downsampling right?monospaced
- My receiver is confirming a higher rate pcm stream. You’re in luck!monospaced
- m, i think the actual rate is just half the battle. the resampling is also part. many people can't tell any difference. it's a small thing. I went Minix.MrAbominable
- I'd love to kick either the Minix or the WD to the curb and just have one box to stream through and that's where i'm at presently.MrAbominable

- I see the comments, but they’re 3 years old. I THINK the rate is high resolution. If you are expecting streaming of uncompressed files, GOOD LUCK. :)monospaced
- At this point in time, that’s not an option really anywhere exactly. I believe Apple addressed the high def audio issue in the newer models since that redditmonospaced
- i know it's an old issue but it's the same sample rate. i don't think it's a huge issue but i think they're sitting on 48khz and don't care.MrAbominable
- in any event, i haven't seen anything newer correcting it. and i might just bite the bullet on itv because it solves other issues for me with the WD.MrAbominable
- How do you know the new models downsample? All I see are people talking about this being a issue 3-6 years ago on old models.monospaced
- Meanwhile Apple did add support for lossless and FLAC as features of the new models. Nobody has confirmed they are downsamlling, not even Tidal.monospaced
- I mean, you're right. I can't find anything newer than the issues that began with apple tv4 from 3 years ago; but i also can't find anything saying they changdMrAbominable
- at that time they dropped optical output and assumed all audio was just a slave to video output. which is why they upsample to bluray norm.MrAbominable
- the new 4k device is a nice little box but there's nothing about it more audiophile friendly over the previous.MrAbominable
- they announced that the 4K model has support for high-res audio, that IS the "more audiophile friendly' updatemonospaced
- but I hear you .... a true audiophile wouldn't be using consumer level devices like this for audio, they would use something more solid state, not streaming.monospaced

Recently checked to see if there were any firmware updates for my WDTV and discovered it's now considered "legacy" hardware and isn't supported (except for some via-email troubleshooting) anymore. It took just 4 years to become obsolescent.
- I loved that you could throw anything at WD. Clumsy little piece of hardware that just worked. Support was never their strong suit.MrAbominable

i have a roku... somewhere

I also love Amazon Prime videos which can be watched directly from my Apple TV which is a big go-go for me.
