Why would add be any less real than depression or anxiety or any other disorder of the mind?
I believe we do all gave it to some extent but it's when an individual has a severe case of it that it becomes debilitating and need treatment either pharmaceutical or therapeutic just to be able to function normally.

Wife has it. and i believe she thinks is it real, which makes it real to me. (in the sense that i gotta deal with it) .. to the same extent that she has to deal with 'i just need a few drinks' to kill the edge off after a couple arguments between us.

outside the nurse's office in elementary school there was a 6-foot tall paper mache super mario one of the art classes had built. whenever i'd go to take my meds (ritalin for supposed adhd) i'd instead palm them then stick 'em up his nose. (the pills made me miserable and sick to my stomach, don't give your kids that shit.) i did this for years, and all the while they just kept upping my dose because it "wasn't working". so somewhere in texas there's a 6-foot mario filled with speed like some kind of crackhead piñata

There's a big difference between people who just have poor concentration and those who actually have ADD. It's like people who like to keep their house clean and don't like dirt saying "I'm so OCD". They're not obviously, they're just being hyperbolic.
For those with the actual disorder it's a much different story. It takes time and support for things like exercise and diet to work, and the trouble with many ADDers is that they have trouble forming the habits. Your brain works differently. Deciding you're going to exercise and eat better sounds easy for folks who don't have it because they don't have problems with impulse control, or they don't hyper focus on something else when they mean to go to the gym and then blow it off altogether because something else is stimulating their brain. So for some, if it means taking meds for a little while until they can get themselves under control and form the right habits I don't think that's the worst solution. I don't think treatment should ever be take two pills everyday and see how it goes. I think you need to build coping skills.
In my case I'm lucky I have a girlfriend who is encouraging me to exercise and taking me a long with her. (Goes a long way). Unfortunately I say shit with out thinking about what I'm saying and hurts her feelings to often and it's been a big issue. I'm only now realizing that this may be my ADHD (again haven't been diagnosed since I was a child and need to be evaluated). She's not sure she can handle that part and I need to figure out a way to stay mindful in conversations and not let my focus drift.

I have it. Got medicated as teenager. Helped me get through school somehow. Lost multiple jobs as an adult because I cannot focus on shit. Started doing all kinds of sport 2 years ago, it's better now but I am still vulnerable for being careless and doing a lot of mistakes. Could easily earn double money if I could focus better but I don't want to go back to medication. It made me dull.

- if its to much energy in the head, toast mediation practices can sometimes help bring it down.yurimon
- also that type of practice may be hard at first but if you can get over the hump you can gain control of your energyyurimon

On the other hand, is there anything wrong with taking a drug to enhance your concentration in a distracting work environment? We don't generally condemn people lining up to get their caffeine fix at Starbucks every morning. Maybe the medical condition used to prescribe it is questionable, but that is just society's way of justifying something that there is clearly a consumer demand for.

This is my theory for 99%....of course taking speed will help you be alert and focus. So will cocaine. Doesn't mean you should drug up to get something done. Suck it up and persevere. Too many people make excuses for so many things.
There are legitimate health issues that drugs are necessary (I am one of those, unfortunately), but I feel like people just read some literature and think "oh, yeah, I guess I must be that 'cause I don't like to sit and study boring crap for 10 hours at a time".

So I need to confirm the diagnosis for myself, because I was diagnosed as a child. I'm reasonably certain that it's still an issue for me, though it comes less for me at work (where I feel it actually works to my advantage) and more so in my relationships (professional and personal). Anyone else experience this?

I know people with ADHD. Medication helps them. Of course there are going to be people on both sides of the issue that abuse it. That's the American way.
