9/11 was 2 months after I just moved to NYC from being away 12 years. I was living in Brooklyn at the time, and we went straight into Manhattan when we heard about it. These are some photos I took.
Walking across the Manhattan bridge into the city while everyone else was walking the other way
This was the closest I could get, the flame in the middle is the WTC
<br>My volunteer crew. We waited hours but they eventually let us go home.

On September 11th 1973, US-backed General Pinochet overthrew the democratically elected leader of Chile, Salvadore Allende. Pinochet ordered an air strike on the Presidential Palace, labor activists and famous folk guitarists were rounded up for torture, disappeared, and killed. Pinochet converted the national football stadium into a detention facility like Guantanamo Bay. Chile's economy was turned into a plantation for the 1%, as inequality and poverty skyrocketed under the imposed Milton Friedman-style economic model.Over 40,000 Chileans became victims of Pinochet's terror. In response, the Nixon administration committed more money, more training, more torture equipment.
The world didn't begin on September 11th, 2001. Rather, for the first time in modern history, Americans were visited by the same violence the US has imposed since its creation. In Chile, the US murdered tens of thousands and impoverished millions. This wasn't America's first foray in international terrorism, nor would it be the last. The United States security state is a terrorist and a plague on the people of the world.

What i'll never forget is the silence in the night after they stopped all flights, it was so erie. The look on everyones face that day driving to work. The feeling of sadness and the fear, not sure of what, most likely the unknown. So many people lost their lives. It was just horrifying to watch as it happened all live on television. :(
- I also remember after the first tower fell, I thought how weird it was going to be to see only one tower standing. then right there live on tv the second one collapsed. it was devastating. so no, i will never forget. ;'(sea_sea
- there live on tv the second one collapsed. it was devastating. so yea, it's hard to forget. ;'(sea_sea

It all happened about 11pm Melbourne time. My daughter was about 6 months old and I was sitting down watching Talking Footy, a local football show. The vision cut across to NY and it was just unbelievable...I'd been in that very spot only a few months earlier.
Stayed up all night watching it happen...worried sick what the fuck kind of world my daughter was going to live in when she was older.

Drove to move to Chicago from Texas on the 12th with my friend and his dad. The highway going up I-35 seemed so desolate at times, very few people out driving. I remember it was so difficult to be in a van for 14 hours all day because we had only the radio to listen to for news and stuff.
