I recently gave up ALL soda and go for lemon water or just water, tea, coconut water and miso soup. I feel a million times better in just over a month.

in fact this past month, just by adjusting my eating and eliminating sugary crap drinks and yes, diet one too b/c they are even worse, I have lost a solid 20lbs.

There is no (healthy) replacement. If it's for the sugar, you have to go through cold turkey. We shouldn't eat/drink that much sugar anyway and softdrinks are really, really bad.
If you miss the caffeine, replace it with coffee or Coke Zero or something.- Please research aspartame before considering putting coke zero or any diet soda in your body...set

Pussy Juice.

lots of ice, squeeze half a lemon and water. very refreshing, might help if you put in a tall cup with straw. plus lemon water has many healthy properties.
for caffeine, make some mate or black tea and chill it. i like my cold teas without sugar maybe some lemon.

gotta give it up for sodastream for fueling my carbonated fizzy fizz addictions. i don't even mess with any of the additive crap, just drop in some sliced strawberries, ice, etc and you're good to go.

- You have the subscribe or log in to read it. However, I'm sure it's utterly retarded...set
- It's like saying one successful man rubs broken glass into his eyes before work, so it must be fine and make you successful.set
- you're absolutely right — Clearly you've not read it!detritus
- btw, you realise your example is exactly the same specious statistic you use, when you talk about your grandad and bicarb? :)detritus
- bicarb? :)detritus
- True...set
- He's dead now anyway so I take it all back. Bicarb is not the secret to immortality.set

I used to drink shit loads of Pepsi, but transitioned to iced tea. Sometimes I go for the store stuff (only marginally better than soft drink, I know), but other times make my own. I get these http://www.hiyatea.com and add just a touch of lemon cordial to give a tiny bit of citrus flavour and sugar (but far far less than I would have otherwise).

Any old fruit juice on the supermarket shelves will pump you more full of sugar than you know what to do with.
- Is that really healthier though?omahadesigns
- I wasn't saying it was.Continuity
- how can a basket of fruits be unhealthy?mekk

carbonated ice-teas based on (yerba) maté are a good alternative. Still contain quite some sugar but only half as much as a coke. They also contain caffeine. you have to get used to the taste though...

Just scale it back gradually — transitioning from a high sugar [anti-]diet to a low sugar one quickly will leave you feeling like that.
I wouldn't bother with diet or fake-sugar alternatives, as the way they trick the psychology but not the physicality just leads to problems down the road. Also most of them 'll do more damage to you than just too much sugar.
Try and look into the energy values on your sodas - I now drink a Turkish soft drink (really) that *tastes* a lot sweeter than other sodas I drink, but actually has less sugar in it... all depends upon the balance of sweet vs sour or bitter, etc.
if you drink tea, drink it. A 'sweet' tea will have way less sugar than a not-so sweet soda.

It might be the caffeine you're missing. Try the diet or "zero" versions? Honestly, what's people's big problem with drinking good 'ol water?

I read last week that sugar in natural juice is as bad as sugar in any other treats.
- You mean added sugar, or naturally-occurring sugar?Continuity
- Where teeth are concerned, probably.detritus
- People forget the most important thing when it comes to health. PH Level. Fruit juice is highly acidic.set
- sugar is sugar. there's no such thing as 'good natural sugar'benfal99
- pH levels are the most important thing when it comes to health?monospaced
- after air, water and the right nutrients, yes.set
- which I would assume are a given...set
