My macbook for the 3 days or sobeen shutting down intermittently while I'm working (not really running anything too heavy, or have open multiple apps.
I currently don't have a battery in there (for about a month) only powered by the cord... I know I know, could this be the reason why it's acting up?
Any updates I should install?

I'm going to say yes, get a battery asap man.
Could also be that is overheating.
Or, maybe its the logic board, does the computer shut down or is it just the screen? (if you have a second monitor plugged in, is it still working?

Think you should get a battery and see if that makes a difference as you will need one anyway. They are only around £35 on eBay for an official one.
When charging your MBP the light is orange, and when the battery is full the light on the charger goes green. To have it constantly plugged in so its always on green is probably not good for the Logic board and could be causing over-heating as suggested above.

miguex, i believe that it is only the screen... still seems to be ticking.
think it's battery issues? man i've been putting it off. i may need a new powercord too.i'll get over to the apple store this saturday... couldn't have happened at a more worst time.

Btw, I'm sure when I overcharge my laptop it messes with its cycle count.
Each time you drain and charge a battery is 1 cycle, you can view a batteries cycle count in 'About This Mac/More Info/System Report/Power'
For example mine is
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 1230
Condition: NormalAnd its my second battery since 09. So will need replacing soon. But yes, the point I was making was that I'm convinced over-charging runs up the cycle count more than it should, so "over-charging" without a battery could have a similar effect somehow on your Logic Board seen as that is currently taking the cycle count I guess?
In short, you're putting a job on the Logic board that it shouldn't have to do, you're stressing it out and it possibly is the reason why it blacks out.

- is ebay the only option? I like them but just curious...ohhhhhsnap

fyi it's a "15-inch, Mid 2010"
never replaced the batt. and yeah i'm probably burning out the logic board.

also an app called "temperature monitor." it takes temp readings from various components, like CPU, Graphics processor, logic board, etc. it doesn't control the fan like SMC (which is great, btw), but it gives you a sense of what's overheating.
