Well this is a bit of a turn up for the books, I have found that just about every compilation record that carries a well known name - such as Cocteau Twins, has been well documented and it's pretty much impossible to discover something unknown that no collector, DJ, record dealer seems to not know something about, this was until last weekend. I did a clear out of my mum's garage on Saturday to make up some boxes for a fair in Reading the following day. I came across an album I have no memory of ever having or even it's origins so I did a bit of research to find out more. I found absolutely nothing. I've had a couple of 7"s for years that are still a mystery but this album (pictured below) was something quite different. The label, the bands compiled on it, Cocteau Twins alongside punk band Conflict was very odd to see, but I couldn't find anything on Discogs etc so took it along to the fair and asked as many sellers as I could. I even bumped into Mark Lamarr who also drew a blank, none of the traders at the fair, some who are specialists in mid 80's Indie, Mute/Factory etc said they had never seen or heard of this album before. I rebuffed several offers too as it is probably worth something to the right collector and I would rather know more about it before passing it on. The labels show 4 tracks on each side, the labels and rear of sleeve may state this however... there are 6 tracks on each side!
The disc came in a black bin bag type inner sleeve with the Circuit logo on one side, the labels are printed as proper labels with performance rights details but no dates and the envelope sleeve has the Circuit logo embossed on the front. The label address on the rear is important as it is for the studio where Mute Records recorded the early albums by Depeche Mode, Yazoo etc. To add extra spice to the mystery when I played both sides of the record it actually plays Dionne Warwick's greatest hits.
So, it could be some bizarre art project from pre-Mute days, an in-house only promo (but I would have assumed the music would have matched the labels/sleeve notes. It's quite a mystery and I LOVE a good mystery record, I've dropped Mute Records an email about it in the hope they may know more but it is a curio that I needed to share in case anyone knows more and can shed further light on such a find.- when I worked at virgin/emi we created promo samplers like this all the time (must have done over a thousand of them in my time)Gnash
- unusal not to have a "not for sale / resale" line, or "promotional use only" - also doesn't have a DPRO number.Gnash
- coulda been a noob marketing manager who would have got shit after it was printedGnash

Hits and misses at a couple of tip shops this week, I doubt the
Scottish ones I'll soon be visiting will be quite so eclectic or fruitful...Despite heavy racks of vinyl I only found a couple of bits in here.
This isn't all that rare but it caught my interest to find out what
a Bond era Connery has to say on it.This kind of single is catnip to me, I have yet to hear it though as
I've already packed away my deck but I'm sure it has some merit.
All sorts of things turned up in these ramshackle piles.I have the Trunk OST album but never seen this US copy
with actual episodes on before.I don't remember this version at all and I'm old! The New Seekers
version is on the flip though and everyone knows that one.
Rarest find was this 1st pressing (of only 250 copies)
of the debut release by The Deep Freeze Mice. The most curious was this Mexican 12" club mix by Jabba's Palace Band

I must start by saying this record and poster etc are not mine
but belongs to a friend, we had been chatting about the bands
we used to see in a pub in Milton Keynes in the late 70's,
my claim to fame was seeing The Specials AKA and
The Undertones among others in the tiny venue in MK.For some reason, maybe it was because there was another
show in town although I cannot remember what, but I decided
not to go and see this band called The Cure who were on there
first tour, I had just never heard of them at the time. My friend
did however go to see them and took his copy of their album
Three Imaginary Boys to the gig along with some other bits
and bobs he had related to them like some press pics his mate
at the local paper had given him as well as a poster he's got
from a local record shop advertising their debut single. He has had these things literally in his attic along with some
other stuff for 40 years, (the mind boggles what he has kept
but then again I'm just as bad!) So today I met up with him
and I had to take some pics of the record and poster as these
items and in this condition are virtually unheard of these days.
He has no plans to sell them as he's still a keen collector but I
thought I would share them with you as they are quite incredible.
My guess is each member has signed next to the
household item they relate too.
They also signed the inside sleeve - note Robert Smith
writing middle top where he's written 'my house'1st press release & photos
A tiny stamp sized unused sticker with a pic of Lol Tolhurst
Promo poster which came from a record shop in Northampton
fully signed in the middle which he told me hasn't been out of
the record sleeve since May 1979! crackers.

vinyl things picked up this week
No poster but a tidy first pressing
My very first car bomb record sleeve
(OK so it's probably just been set on fire)
Nice to find this out in the wild, I couldn't believe I hadn't heard
it before - it's frickin' Jazz NUTS!Sealed and weird, am 50/50 as to whether I should break the
seal, I listened to some on Youtube and it's was all a bit hippy
dippy, hmmmm..In the same box as the Ecology LP was this US pressing
of a cheeky John & Yoko recordThe outer paper cover had some tear wear from the previous
owner trying to get a look at their private parts, so for your
benefit here they are.A great find from the guy at the car boot who was there again
with his sealed £10 selection boxesBut the best buys were from a £2 selection box on another stall
- holy shit, these all look amazingscruffics

A few 7" odds & ends I seem to have acquired in the last week or so.
I do already have a copy of this but this fresh one is in way better condition.
Not as groovy as I imagined but hey, it was only 50p.
Maybe not as awful as it could have been, I didn't even know he'd made any records until I found this.
Someone else who's music had passed me by all these years, a singer who became famous for her complete lack of rhythm, pitch, tone and overall singing ability from liner notes:
"After a taxicab crash in 1943 she found she could sing 'a higher F than ever before'. Instead of a lawsuit against the taxicab company, she sent the driver a box of expensive cigars."
A far more enjoyable singer (and harpist) was Miss Russell-Fergusson who's beautiful track The Lochan was featured on a mix I recorded for Tak Tent_Radio recently.

A nice pair of picture sleeves singles I found in the same box.
The only pair of singles released by the family folk group from Dundee including one singing the praises of the Discovery ship
launched in 1901 and the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in the UK, she's still docked at the sea front.
3 beautiful red vinyl records of Beatrix Potter tales, also available on blue, green and black vinyl too.
Another 3 records which are on mottled blue, green, red and black were these Greek discs from the 60's including one by Mikis Theodorakis.

I've been quite lucky these past few weeks getting in commission bids at auctions on boxes of LP's and leaving it to fate whether I won them or not. Thankfully some gems have turned up most notably a very unusual edition of Sgt Pepper which I'd not seen before along with a collection of Blues & Folk albums.
From the front it looks like any other copy of The Beatles classic but it turned out this one was the censored issue pressed in Singapore in 1970.
Because of supposed drug references in 3 tracks: A Day In The Life "went upstairs and had a smoke" and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds LSD I imagine
and of course "I get high..." With a Little Help From My Friends these were removed and replaced by songs from Magical Mystery Tour and they still mis-spelt I Am The Walrus, incredible! These are a few of the Blues albums, it was a big box which I am still digging through.
A couple of cheeky albums I couldn't leave in a £1 box at a car boot sale
gotta love that sticker!
I have a couple of Blowfly's other 12 inchers but not come across this one before, arf!
some cheap seven inches
Discovered this lovely tune on this EP a close cousin of his classic Midnight, The Stars & You
A delightful folk tune singing the virtues of cigarettes in an eastern European style.
No proper sleeve but great spooky sound FX from electronic wizard Frederick Charles Judd.
Mid 70's Indian EP from a Birmingham based duo which I picked up as it had a track called Fish 'n' ChipsBizarre 7" by the diminutive comedian which features the talents of Peter Gabriel, Robert Fripp, Phil Collins and Sandy Denny among others!
- Daaamn! Some really good stuff there - good work. Would love to try the whole auction thing one day but have no idea where to even beginscruffics
- Hey thanks for these, except that Beatles one, fuck the Beatles!
But the rest are top! Let's see if I can find some of these on Apple Musicgrafician - Ignore the troll. This is the mother of all albums. What a fascinating piece of sacrilege that is.CyBrainX

A very early start dug up a few gems in a packed field this
morning, I awoke early and after putting the kettle on and
looking up at the time then realised I was an up an hour too soon
so went back to bed until 6:15 and then merrily drove off to sit in
a queue outside the massive car boot in Northampton. There were plenty of singles and one guy had 2 huge boxes
at 25p a go, so I pulled loads including Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd
and even an 80's re-issue of The High Numbers I'm The Face
which was an unexpected treat but this 7" was the pick of the
bunch for me as I never knew the French drink Pernod had
released a record on it's own label before and it's pretty good.I saw a bloke dipped down over a big box of promo card & pvc
sleeved promo CD's and started to dig when the woman said
"these were my ex-husbands, he used to have a record shop,
you can have the lot for £8" which was so cheap I couldn't
haggle so just said yes straight away and the bloke who had
been going through them was a bit miffed but he had a handful
of them and she told him to just keep them.
There were so many I have pulled out loads of compilations to
listen to on my trips up to Scotland and will give a mate who is
helping me to move all the rest. The smiley face sleeved disc
turned out to be a great surprise, it's by someone called
Dr. Coca Cola and it's worth the free download : http://www.duckworthsquare.com/A…I couldn't resist these which were all on the same stall at 2 x fiver,
the Screaming Lord Sutch is a keeper!- aceeddieScissors
