I won several interesting boxes of mixed vinyl for £55
at the auction over the weekend. There was a lot of chuff
but some real gems tucked away including original Stones, Dylan etc.

Although there was a Satanic Majesties with it's daft 3D sleeve
I was most pleased with this 1st UK mono pressing of my 2nd
favourite Stones album (there was sadly no first issue of Let It Bleed
    not that I'm complaining, honest)

I knew nothing about this until I noticed it was on the
Sarah label and then a nice surprise to discover it's stupidly rare.

This was a lovely listen, old folk just rabbiting on about
sheep and thatching and working with oxen, etc.

Out of a really odd mix of albums this Todd Rundgreny album
of Power Pop stood out with some strong tunes.

A private pressing by a raucous local covers band, couldn't
find much online about them except that their drummer is dead.

There was a whole bunch of unused flexi-disc greetings cards,
    probably from the late 50's.

Not a flexi-disc but tucked inside this EMI Xmas card sleeve
was the comedians debut from 1968, but I definitely have an
earlier disc by him though in the shape of a flexi in a
    'Do-It-Yourself Comedians Kit', somewhere...

On the same label and in the same box was this early 7"
by Leonard Cohen, someone certainly had eclectic taste.

I had not come across this disc before, released by the
Crackerjack 70's TV show star, alongside him is an early
sighting of Lenny Henry who doesn't actually feature on
the record, with it's cheeky b-side.

Locally stamped sleeve for the only release by the
R&B band who would turn into Family a few years later.

This UK demo is signed on the label but am damned if I can
make out who's name it actually is, it doesn't look like Cissy's.

One of the stranger discs in the boxes was this Swedish
kinda proggy oddity by Ola & The Janglers.

This is the only 7" I have ever come across with it's own Zoetrope!

I picked up some nice original pressings at the car boots this morning

The final album by The Move who had been reduced to Roy, Bev and Jeff by 1971

A double compilation album from 1970 on Blue Horizon

A lovely laminated UK first pressing with a numbered booklet

It's unusual to come across a record that I can't find anything
about online or the mandolin player John Dorsett or indeed
any of the other folk on it, but this is one of those albums,
    unless anyone knows more?

I am old enough to have a soft spot for Kojak on Saturday night
TV as a kid, but still wish I'd come across a Star Trek or Batman
    edition of this comic/album edition

Best find of the week for just a £1 was this Sci-Fi movie s/t
composed by David Campbell, I checked out his CV and he's
worked on so many records from Adele to McCartney and
composed soundtracks from Boogie Nights to World War Z,
and he's also the father of Beck! I am too tempted to find a
download of this to be honest and keep it as I found it, sealed!

I found a few things at a record fair over the weekend
including a nice pair of Trunks

lovely music from the early 70's TV show

British Railways buffet car announcements, I have a soft spot
for this LP as in another life I used to be a train steward,
    so remember these well

    guitar duel inna classical stylee

some kids story EP's on HMV from the 60's
including a great electronic one by Daphne Oram

"a joint initiative" anti-drugs release by Milton Keynes coppers

    a 50p flexi - I bought 2 (for some reason...)

as if I didn't have enough bloody records already

    • most of what you end up with really is esoteric garbage, to put it mildly. not that that's a bad thing, mind.

but i'm dead jealous of the br announcement lp,

had a fine win at the auction yesterday, there were lots
of Library records, mostly Chappell & KPM along with
an eclectic mix of music from literally all around the world,
these were the pick of the bunch

    India

    China

    Japan

    Africa

    Ireland

    America

bits from all over the place -on trips to Stoke, Milton Keynes
and hmmm, wait for it.... Kent

3 for a fiver seemed a good deal from a market stall in Newcastle Under Lyme

3 x flexis one of which had sadly been cut out into the shape
of an actual record, the music on these postcard flexis is by
The Barry Gray Quintet who also recorded music for TV's
    Century 21 imprint.

One market stall had a massive £1 box and I dug out a
few gems including this curious single from 1964 which
has connections to The Goons and may be the missing
link between The Bonzo's and The Temperance Seven

a pretty amazing charity shop find in a town down south,
it looks unplayed and a shame there was only one...

another charity shop find, this was a Rock N' Roll EP given
away by Mr C - he's an old greaser who I have met a few times
    at record fairs

I have the original 78 of this somewhere but this is the probably*
really scarce 7" from 1961 (*not)

signed, white vinyl, gate-fold with a booklet and in a 50p bin

    Twenty years ago...

    • i have that CDfooler
    • I also have that CD. Plus, an OG pressing of the Brown Paper Bag single on wax.section_014

I went to 3 boots and a record fair over the weekend with
mixed results. I did clear out a lot of stuff including things
that has been cluttering up my cellar, old cassettes, older
    Shadows EP's, Beatles CD's, etc

A nice pair at the same fair, one was £5 the other £3 which
tells me some dealers really don't have a clue about some things.

This lovely LP at a boot, I remember having it on CD
somewhere but hadn't heard it for ages, but it's stood
the test of time and really does sound better on vinyl
    (in my head)

A mostly musical selection of WC tunes, but a nice companion
to the Sounds Like.. records released on Sentinel in the early 70's

Another new canal album to add to my collection of ooh five,
    I think...

This was my favourite find of the weekend, a compilation
of late 70's / early 80's themes and incidental music

Good copies of this rarely turn up at boots anymore but
this was an even nicer Parlophone rather than Apple pressing

    • I found one of those Scientist ones for £1 a little while ago. great album!scruffics
    • All those Scientist LP's on Greensleeves are absolutely superb.Eighty

cheap vinyl finds I have picked up whilst out and about last week

Yugoslavian Prog from 1975 and yes, I bought it for the cover

49p for this unusual Punk & Avantgarde comp from 1980

It does exactly what it says on the sleeve

A double album picked up with my golf mad father in law in mind

A musical tour of the city released in 1969

The best and most unusual find of the week
was this album from 1975 complete with booklet.

The Miles Davis track from Bitches Brew is a stand-out on this Quad comp.

    • i take it you don't have a quad decoder? i was looking for QS system for some Japanese stuf, ended up selling to a Quad collector who promised to send back ripskingsteven
    • ... but never did :-|kingsteven
    • no, just a simple set up at home I'm afraidGardener

Some bits 'n' bobs on a short trip to The Lakes mid-week
and some LP's from last Sundays very, very last local car boot.

The perfect album to find on a Cumbrian dig, this was
found in Silloth with another copy of the Daphne Oram
electronic dance LP for schools I'd picked up earlier in the year.

A musical comedy mix with members of The Scaffold with Neil Innes & friends.

Sole solo effort by Barbara Mullaney aka Rita Fairclough
aka Barbara Knox aka Rita Tanner and possibly others.

I paid £6 for this at the car boot, the guy wanted £10 but
that tear on the sleeve edged it for me, I was more than
happy that the vinyl was in super condition.

Sweet, signed folk album of canal songs and stories.

I must suffer from some strange ailment that forbids me
to leave such albums as these in 50p bins, maybe i just
need to give them a good home?

50p blown on this US Riverside Jazz album from 1956
with nice vinyl but a tatty sleeve.

Another cheap find, I never even knew there was a JD
album, turns out to be movie dialogue and sadly not songs.

This mid 70's R&R album on the oddly named Throstle Nest
label came signed on the rear with a signed pic of Dave inside.

    • Nice Scott walker. Is that the one with 'the old man is back' track on it?scruffics

    @gardener

I'm thinking of having a big music clearout.
A good amount of vinyl including 90s indie, some Public Enemy, NWA, lots of Soul and Funk compilation albums like FUnk Spectrum and the likes - including compilations of songs from Brainfreeze as thats the kind of stuff I used to DJ.

In terms of CD's its a mix of indie, rock, some dance from the last few decades.

I have some 7 inches that are probably worth a good few quid each so will run them by local collectors I know first.

With the other stuff though I thought about a car boot sale.

What would be the going price for vinyl and CD's/
Also what do folk charge for DVD's?

Going to go along to a local car boot sale this weekend to see if there's anyoen selling the same kind of stuff and what their prices are.

I guess bundles are a really good way of getting shot of stuff in bulk.

    • keep them... box them up. it will be fun to go through in a few decades. I still miss all the vinyl and CDs I gave away in college.fooler
    • condition is so important really so the better they are I'd consider ebaying them after checking current values on discogs.Gardener
    • Car boot prices are under £3 for LPs if they are more folk tend to skip onto other stalls.
I clear out at £2 each or 3 x £5 and do OK

This 7" was right up my street,
the B side offers advice on growing veg

It still amazes me that records like this can still turn up
    in charity shops for 50p

    I haggled the 5th, 7th and 4th Beatles fan club flexi's down
to a fiver for all 3 at a car boot at 7am

I was a 50p sucker for this Videodisc of Neil Young's classic
concert film, no I don't need it and no I can't play it, but it looks nice!

This 2 x 12" pack by The Avalanches was one of only
2 records I picked up at the record fair yesterday.

the other 1 was this old Mo Wax 10"

The oddest LP I found over the weekend was this
Deutsche Grammophon (promo?) in a record warehouse
sleeve, it's a kind of Christmas card album featuring
    The Nutcracker Suite

    • Good job on that Bo Diddleyscruffics
    • do you actually listen to all this shit? or just like collecting it?johnny_wobble
    • not to say it's all shit, as in bad, but this is a lot of random shit.johnny_wobble
    • I try to find samples on the spoken word stuff and just like collecting the vinyl no-one else does, y'know the shit!Gardener

Been a while since I found some solid grooves at the thrift shop. Everyone and their mom seems to dig for vinyl these days.

Anyway, Brothers Johnson for the win!

Also, I need a silver jacket like the brother with the 'fro.

These are just some of the great singles I bought at
a record fair today - they came from a Music Publishers
clear-out (50p each) there were a lot of unknown acetates
too and plenty to sell on but these were some of my keepers

demo of the first Monty Python related 7"?

    note the mis-spelling of Pele

at last! my first and only cricket related record

    1968 Argo Records promo -
signed on the back by an Argo label big-wig (probably)

the one and only record released by the great actress

quite bizarre that when they were not releasing Queen
records EMI were knocking out singles like this

one sided test pressing of the TV advert by Darth Vader

this single just bombed upon release

B side of US issue of Coney Island Baby

the original issue date caught my eye

great sleeve for this French EP

    • die cut sleeve with different covers?Gardener

recent LP vinyl finds, some of these were in a box
with a few gold London label 7"s, they were a bit tatty
and some had lost their tri-centres but nice to find anyway!

    http://i207.photobucket.com/albu…

I actually nearly left this as I knew nothing about it
and some other records caught my eye, but am so glad
I did pick it up as it turns out to be really good and also
pretty rare as well as having a big blue sticker in the middle.

another scarce find was this LP by Sixto Rodriguez
the cover of which I didn't quite recognise until I realized
someone had actually cut the front flap off!
This too turned out to be a lovely listen and an absolute keeper

one of several Christian folk albums in with a job lot
I won for £2 at the auction yesterday, this one from
1970 by Larry Groce was the pick of the bunch

also in the same box was this record of old woodwind
instrument sounds, the intro's in a really plummy voice
alone are well worthy of sampling

I guess it's fate that this turned up too as I only just
started watching re-runs of The New Avengers at the
weekend, but I am neither convinced nor scared of
the blokes with guns on the rear of the sleeve

This great old On-U Sound album was in the box at
Age Concern this morning for 49p
I already have it on vinyl & CD but could hardly leave it,
especially as it had these 2 x A4 sheets including the
original press release for this and the brilliant
End of The Century Party by Gary Clail

oddest find of the week was this American album from
1967 which has some good spoken word samples,
it comes with strange sleeve notes and a little info booklet

    • Sixto Rodriguez?! 0.oscruffics
