They are both just attempts to understand the world around us. Imagine how confusing the world must have been to a bunch of humans running around in the jungle. Thinking you had to sacrifice a goat or something to make it rain might have made sense when you barely had the ability to leave your island, much less understand how the weather works.
- exactly... the point is that religion's "attempt" is really not an attempt, but instead a lazy guess that nobody questionsmonospaced
- science is at least a process of understanding, which has provided tons of informationmonospaced
- If people were running around confused then the species wouldnt survive. can you get above profane point of view?yurimon
- You seem to be under the impression that religion or more to the point, spirituality has nothing to add to the human endeavour of explaining the universe. I just don't believe that science provides all the answers...yet?Morning_star
- endeavour of explaining the universe. I just don't believe that science provides all the answers...yet?Morning_star
- of course it doesn't, and it never did, but it has concrete evidence of answers that the bible can only guess atmonospaced

@OP31
"lol i love how people say you are not "open minded" just b/c you don't believe in the crazy pseudo and fringe science theories."
That not why. You are not open minded because even when faced with evidence that contradicts your world view you reject it without investigation or rely on second-hand, agenda driven, armchair opinion. You claim to be on the side of science but all you continually do is prostrate yourself at the alter of cultural opinion.
"The world is an amazing place, its just not as magical and mystical as people want it to be, but that does't mean it is any less amazing."
Apologies if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming that you have a determinist, materialist world view and that you believe we have no free will, we are just biological machines and consciousness is an illusion? How do you KNOW that the universe is just not as magical as people want it to be?, because there is mountains of evidence, over thousands of years of human experience that say something different

Keep this religion vs science crap in the religion thread. I frankly don't care to be bothered with it.
- that's what I said, though apparently that is how this thread started...inteliboy
- yeah, the TOPIC of this thread is about how it's not a belief systemmonospaced

- all his wack claims are completely unsupported by any evidence whatsoevermonospaced
- his entire theory goes against the very basic laws of physicsmonospaced
- why is this in the science thread?Gnash
- it's yurimon, he's trying to say that since one guy got science wrong that the whole scientific community is questionablemonospaced
- a pathetic attempt to bring it down to faith/religion's level, I supposemonospaced
- Kinda interesting, but not from a science pov. According the wiki ""Velikovsky hoped... that the merit of his ideas would be evaluated on the basis of his comparative mythology and use of literary sources alone"Gnash
