I like the idea of new members, I think it would be fine with a few moderators. I was moderating here for a few months at one point, using MrDinky's log in. Until the cunt banned his own account to see what would happen haha.
The two of us and the other moderator, who for some reason wishes to remain anonymous, kept on top of the spam. It's easy enough to delete as you browse.
The thought of one day coming here and QBN no longer existing often worries me. Migrating to somewhere fresh and new, with control of it ourselves, is an excellent idea.
We definitely have the skills amongst us to do it..
- Wasn't version3 a mod at some point?DRIFTMONKEY

I'm on holiday at the moment, until next week, but when I'm back... let's get on it.
Key focus for me is legibility and ease of use on any device, keeping the comments at the side and the notes feature. Love the notes feature, really adds a new dynamic to the forum. It warrants lolz and fuck you's that otherwise most people wouldn't bother making a new post with.
Lolz, fuck you all.

Anyone remember this? was another experiment in a simple forum.
Seems to be have been bought up by the Japanese :)

i think you guys can do it. i put this together in a relatively short amount of time several years ago:
also, someone should write a scraper to sift all the conversation data from the site. Have it sift slowly so as to not overload the server - should take maybe a day.
and i'd have the least morraly corrupt person to host it. the last thing you want is a tyrant moderating. preferably someone who's never been known as a trouble-maker on this site. like mg33 or detrius or someone. and they should be proactive so as to manage the updating and curating of the site as needed.
i think it'd be nice as an homage to ditch any web trend styles and do something with a wink an a nod to the old grey newstoday site. maybe even reignite that sense of community and interest in the topic of design that's long gone stale..
just my thoughts..
- that app was good dude! thanks! was a bit slow, but i assume that couldnt be helpedHombre_Lobo
- would love to see what else youve been working on :DHombre_Lobo
- FWIW, I was a senior moderator on Flashkit about a decade ago. Street Cred!mg33
- LOL at detritus never making trouble
=Dset

Layervault has a pretty nice forum which is very minimal...I think something simple like this would work.
- So what you're really saying is that set is useles piece of shit?Hombre_Lobo
- How could you... I joke. That design is nice! I personally find sets cleaner and more useable though.Hombre_Lobo
- haha...no just an example of a very simple forumukit2
- It's easy to get overwhelmed with a project like this if you try to build too many features at onceukit2
- I agree with that ukit. The main thing is for migration to be quick & easy and people start using it right away.ORAZAL
- Hombre_Lobo0
@ukit,
Totally agree. I think this sites design is great, very useable. And sets design takes all of the good qualities.

the only downside of Google+, i'm not sure what's their policy, but i think stuff like "COTD" and "NSFW" stuff would get us ban... But i'm not sure. But, i think we could live without those, no? ;-)
- benfal990
But you know, if we dont have the resources at all to make a new website. The Google+ community page we created is very cool, it comes with an Android and iOS app already.
Animated gifs, vimeo works. Responsive. I seriously would adopt it easily. The group is closed too, but people can ask to join and a mod can accept or refuse.
- benfal990
ukit2, and the sidenotes are cool, i wouldnt' want to lose the sidenotes
- Yeh man, great feature. They were even here before Facebook had comments!Hombre_Lobo
- http://chapp.is has comments for each post although they are not immediately visible. I really think that should be the base for the new.ORAZAL
- ...for the new site.ORAZAL

If i could code properly i would gladly work on QBN II
I can't code :-/ /
- ukit20
Whatever happens I really like the approach of having the topic links on the same page (which set's design also includes) rather than the traditional forum layout. Seems like that is one of the things that makes this site so addictive.
- OSFA0
Keep it closed! Or by invitation only :)

- thunderdome rulesprophetone
- lol, welcome to the thunderdome!Hombre_Lobo
- I think the first version of the new site should be as close to this one in it's current state. So closed at first.ORAZAL
- Another big thing would be to import existing user accounts. I think that would be easy by adding a code on our QBN profile for authentification.ORAZAL

In terms of the new site being open to new members....
I do like how this is a closed community, familiar faces and the hilarious classic qbn in jokes. However, Im not old school by any means but, remember when qbn had way more active users, and I mean good users not the spammers. You would have some really cool stuff being shared, good discussions, and hell you lot even made a couple of books!
As much as I love this small closed community maybe opening it up would give a lot more potential. Some sort of entry process might be good, but maybe that's just elitist and defeats the point.
- Agreed, I kind of liked it when it was open in spite of the chaosukit2
- I can see both sides though. Towards the end the spam got really out of control.ukit2
- Yeh it's a tough call eh. Spam won't be an issue as we'll have proper mods, but quality users. Ant be guaranteedHombre_Lobo
- Can't be guaranteed*Hombre_Lobo

Worst comes to worse, if the plug is pulled and the site goes down, shall we all agree to meet up here -

Think someone already suggested this actually...- I got a 404.DRIFTMONKEY
- WE ARE ALL DOOMEDHombre_Lobo
- It was the google plus qbn page, not sure how to link to it properly from my iPad :/Hombre_Lobo
- Hombre_Lobo0
In terms of branding, I wasn't saying we need a huge complex brand.
I was just pointed out we'll need an entirely new one. Something nice and simple.I'm sure set can create something sexy and apt.
- DRIFTMONKEY0
Responsive or not, it would be nice to have a place we can all emigrate to once the overlords pull the plug. Not all of us facebook, and creating a new site would be labor intensive. What if we created our own subreddit? Or has this already been done? Just a thought, since it wouldn't cost us anything, and we could limit it to invite only if necessary. Plus, i.reddit.com is already set up for responsive.

i like where this is going, but i wonder if it will actually come to fruition
