As for payment to support it, we could all chip in like 5 quid/8 bucks or something and that would be easy enough to cover it I would think.
- dude i only make $190k per year plus some benefits2002

I think set is a front a end dude so I guess he will wanna do the build, makes sense.
Not sure what the best process is, maybe someone build the static, responsive front end then pass it on to a back end pro so they can make it dynamic and database driven?
I'm happy to build the static, resposnsive front end if set is too busy.
But set is on holiday, might as well wait until he's back to formulate a plan of action!

^i can't see much benefit in a framework, I'd rather build it from scratch myself to make it a little leaner, but that's how I prefer to do most sites. Flexbox would ace as we don't need to support old browsers! it doesnt support ie 9 though, but hey.. Sacrifices must be made for a better tomorrow.

Let's ask some real questions. Should it be built on top a framework? Should it use floats or flexbox?

let's reinvent the wheel while we're at it, too!

QBNpro.com?

The person who will own the domain and hosting account will own the One Ring with the power of shutting it down when he wants. Do we have a hobbit we can trust in here, where's Frodo?
- benfal990
Who will pay for the domain name, hosting and bandwidth? Who will own it?

Let's get this shit rolling! At least until we forget about it and bump it up again in three months. I'm available to help with design and some code.
The main concern I have is probably the server/resources aspect. Who's going to support it? Should we implement some kind of ads to help with the costs? Paypal donations?
Someone in here rich enough to pay the bill and earn the title of most honorable cunt member?

And we need avatar on the new website! Pictures or images would be great to personalize and humanize us.
- << so fucking true! thankfully sets design has avatars. small tasteful ones!Hombre_Lobo

That would be weird if suddenly all of us stop coming here and all go on the new website, QBN Masters will not understand the visitors drop suddenly :-P

you should vote for mods and features, and weight votes depending on membership tenure.
so 5 years or more doubles vote and 10 triples, or something similar
for better or worse there are a lot of contrasting personalities here and that could make it difficult to create a plan for mass exodus unless everyone is on board with the 'leaders'
one thing the owners of this site always got right (intentionally or not) is staying far removed from nearly all social aspects of the site. they modded, dropped in every once in a while and that's it. no opportunity for impartial favoritism. the moderation was unilateral and seemingly unbiased.

About your point 1:
I think it's better to leave it organized as it currently is, meaning no organization (#freebleeding). The most recent posts at the top.
Leave it to each user to be able to add the threads they want to collections they create.- Maybe a set of predefined tags you can select when making a thread with a function to filter if so desiredset
- mg330
Couple of things:
1. Topic Lists vs. Topic Categories
I also like the simplicity of the current topic list. However... the one thing I've always wanted here is some filtering or identification system for separating design posts from everything else. I actually have an idea for this. It would be nice to have an icon system to represent a set of topics: Graphic Design, Web Design, Photography, Current Events / Politics, Help Needed (catch-all for design help, tips, etc.) Random/Nonsense, Music, and possibly others. You'd see all topics in ascending order by recency as it currently is arranged, but you'd have a filter to chose a specific topic to only view posts in that topic.
Where this gets weird is things like What are you listening to, animated gif thread, pic of the day, COTD, etc. where it's basically one giant thread that's continuously added to, which is a format that suits those topics. It would be weird if you had to view gif threads individually.
So maybe it could be a mix of topic categories with multiple posts, and some topic categories that consist of just one thread that's constantly grows.
2. New Members - I think it would be great to keep it tight, but still allow for people to join up. Invites would work, but I've always liked the concept of the masses approving/disapproving members based on a short bio, list of interests, etc. submitted in a form and then voted on by all existing members. Is that too exclusive? Would it help keep the right kind of people here? At the very least, it prevents it becoming a spam-haven because you're only able to post if you get approved.
- people can make one category per week. categories stay alive as long as they meet progress requirements, otherwise, they disappearcannonball1978

Key differentiators for QBN:
• Design industry professionals acting unprofessionally
• Creative and personal criticism
• Taste-making close to the source
• Anonymity or semi-anonymity
• Grassroots witch-hunting
• Meta-trollingPain Points:
• Ineffective and low-tempo content curation
• Ineffective and kludgey search
• Spam accounts
• Dog eating is meh as a feature
• No method for self-police-ing
• No method for making improvements
• Meta-trolling- LOL @ "grassroots witch hunting" but so true.mg33

- Most of the key differentiators pretty much sum up why QBN is great.grotesk_neue
- I'm a bit afraid that that a change won't be better fpr this place. Often it is, but maybe not for NT. We all love this community for being a little odd and familial.grotesk_neue
