Tenderloin

like fiver said, you got to be here.
scope out a one-month rental on airbnb or vrbo, and then peep out craigslist every day for rental listings.
make sure you have all your paperwork in order and printed out ready to hand over to potential landlords. paperwork like your CA rental application, your rental history/landlords numbers, bank statements, and credit scores.
rent is insane here, so make sure have at least 6 months in savings. You will be lucky to get a 1 bedroom for probably not less than $2000, and potentially much more depending on the hood you are looking at.
good luck.

I lived in the Outer Richmond for years and rented an entire Victorian house (4 bedrooms, 3 car garage, 2 offices, 2 bathrooms) for about $3,000. Rents might be crazy in the center of the city, but if you don't mind a small commute and you like living near the beach/park, it's totally reasonable and very nice.
- you would never get that now. rent has gone up almost 40% in the past 3 years. even more in parts.of the city.lvl_13
- ouch... yeah, I left in late '08monospaced
- you mean 40% per year for 3 yearsrobotinc

have fun.
my girlfriend's studio is $1900 a month in nob hill, a 1 bedroom in my friend's building by duboce park is $3600.
some of my friends have found deals but when i lived there, in the tenderloin my studio was $900 and when i moved out, last year, they upped it to $1300. (a studio from which i saw two beatings and a murder.)
so, yeah. have fun finding a place.

personally, I'd check out East Bay... having lived in SF for 10 years, and just moved. Oakland is where the cool kids are now. And it's way more affordable. You can always hop on the BART, and you're in SF to party in 20 minutes.
- The cool kids were ALWAYS in East Bay!nocomply
- because they're too poor to live in the actual citymonospaced
- Stef! I'll introduce you to my friend when he heads out there. Good dude/lad.instrmntl

Be sure they give you corporate housing for one to two months to find a place. Also, ideally they can give you a signing bonus as means to pay your deposit/broker fees(although broker fees are rare in SF).
